We are looking for a Family Support Worker to join our team.

About the role

Norton House Stanford Hall is a large 8-bedroom home for families visiting injured service personnel undergoing rehabilitation at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) Stanford Hall, near Loughborough. The Home is located in the same village as the DMRC, but not on the same site. It operates 24 hours, which includes out of hours duty & on call.

The residents are the next of kin or main support network of their loved one receiving treatment at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre. The staff members work individually and as part of a team to provide the necessary support to the families in residence.

You will be responsible for providing appropriate practical and emotional support to the residents at Norton House, Stanford Hall. The post holder will support the day to day running of the home, ensuring a safe and secure environment which safeguards the residents.

You will have the opportunity to learn about the wide range of services that the charity delivers to serving personnel, veterans, and their families, as well as develop case-working skills.
About the team

The team is made up of the Housing Manager, a Deputy Housing Manager, a Family Support Worker and 2 Housekeepers. It is a very close-knit team that works well together and provides a great service for our guests. Everyone is involved in helping to make Norton House the best it can be.
About you

To succeed you must have experience of working with vulnerable adults ideally within a welfare setting. Excellent organisational and IT skills are also essential, as is a commitment to providing a quality service and a First Aid qualification or the willingness to undertake training to obtain one.

Good interpersonal skills are required as you will need to develop effective working relationships with our key stakeholders, which include staff at the DMRC and within SSAFA.

You must be prepared to work out to a three-week rota which includes weekends and bank holidays. You will also be expected to undertake ‘on call’ duties which may be out of hours, and ideally you should be able to respond within 30 minutes travelling time.
About SSAFA

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, has been providing practical, emotional, and financial support to our Forces and their families since 1885. Last year our teams of volunteers and employees helped more than 79,000 people in need, from Second World War veterans to those who have served in more recent conflicts or are still currently serving, and their families.

SSAFA understands that behind every uniform is a person. We are here for that person – any time they need us, in any way they need us, for as long as they need us.
Diversity and Inclusion at SSAFA
