We are looking for an experienced mental health practitioner with excellent assessment skills to join a newly established and innovative multi-agency team led by Lewisham Children's Social Care.
This team will provide integrated mental health, substance misuse and family support for parents of children on statutory Child in Need Plans.
The overall aim of this team is to improve the safety and wellbeing of children affected by the substance use and mental health needs of their parents and carers. This will be achieved through providing support to parents to ensure that substance misuse no longer impacts on their ability to care for their child, and to improve their mental health and wellbeing, including
This is a borough based role and is a fixed term post until 30.4.26 and is a unique opportunity to provide a multi agency approach for this client group.
Main duties of the job
To work collaboratively with a multi agency team to provide expert mental health assessments to parents with mental health and substance misuse issues.
to contribute to mental health care planning and provide interventions to support sustainable recover.
To identify and support care pathways as required with primary and secondary care.
to provide complex case management and addressing Safeguarding for a small group of individuals who cannot be supported by third sector,
To attend and contribute to any social care of mental health meetings to support recovery

Job responsibilities
The overall aim of this team is to improve the safety and wellbeing of children affected by the substance use and mental health needs of their parents and carers. This will be achieved through providing support to parents to ensure that substance misuse no longer impacts on their ability to care for their child, and to improve their mental health and wellbeing, including by addressing the underlying trauma that may be contributing to their substance misuse.
The successful candidate will have a key role in this team through providing expert mental health assessments, care planning and evidenced based health and psychosocial care interventions to parents within the caseload. We are looking for an individual with a particular interest in working with adults also impacted by drug and/or alcohol misuse.
As this role will be working in partnership between SLAM and Lewisham children's social care, there is an expectation for joint working. This will include attending relevant meetings within the scope of practise with London borough of Lewisham council. The post holder will receive supervision from both social care colleagues and SLaM. The post holder will be based with the social care team and provide specialist mental health assessments and interventions as required. The successful candidate will support identification of pathway into secondary care services if required.
